Ryan & Abe: 2006 LR3 HSE7 HD-Package
Eric: 2005 Range Rover MkIII HSE
Dan: 1991 Range Rover Classic SWB Great Divide Edition

Jarek was supposed to join us with his 2000 Range Rover P38 4.6 HSE, but unfortunately had a transmission cooler line burst on his way out.

Good trip, we ran all greens, found some fun obstacles, and the trucks proved their capabilities while stock.

Abe took some very nice pictures from the trip, and they are posted here: http://tabid.smugmug.com/Other/Turkey-Run-2010/14833708_9Qmeh

Checked out this morning at 7am to get an early start. Went to Denny’s for breakfast. This was our 3rd time at Denny’s. We are so done with this chain On the way out of Colorado Springs, we stopped in a Walmart to pick up an atlas. As well as the in-car GPS works, sometimes you just can’t beat an old-fashioned map. The GPS only shows you your immediate vicinity, once you zoom out you lose the details. With the paper map, you can sit down and plot the course with everyone involved.

We took RT36 from CO across KS today. I think this road is much more interesting than I-70. We can still go 65mph but it takes us through a lot of little towns instead of bypassing them on the interstate. As you read earlier, we had lunch in Norton. From there, we continued on RT36 to our present location in MO. With only 2 trucks, we made great progress. Fuel stops were shorter and less frequent (sorry Dan).

Did I mention how windy KS is last week on our first pass through this state? Let me say it again, Kanas is WINDY

Ryan called when I was checking in at the hotel. They were about 50 miles ahead of us and are pushing another couple of hours forward before resting. I estimate that they should be about 150 miles East of here when they finally stop. He reports that their journey had it’s difficulties. Dan ran out of fuel a couple of times and Ryan blew his front driveshaft. It figures that as soon as they separate from me, he needs the only spare part I carried with me No worries, he took his off and is driving on RWD for now.

I am showered and very comfortable at the Hampton Inn. This place is much better than the motels we have been staying in (not that the others were that bad). I knew we would be tired when we got into town so I mapped us directly here knowing that this hotel will be acceptable from past experiences. I really didn’t want to drive around town looking at different motels.

Another early 7am start tomorrow. Our goal is Dayton OH, about 650 miles east of here. At this rate, we should be home Saturday night, 1 day ahead of schedule.

Good night all
