Help troubleshooting

Postby Rsek » Wed Jun 07, 2017 3:26 pm

Last night I replaced my ignition coils and changed the oem thermostat for a soft spring one. The truck was running at 204 on the oem and would bump up to 210 at stop lights. Now it runs at 210 and bumps up to 215 at stop lights. Not exactly the outcome I was expecting. Any ideas?

I replaced coils because of misfires on cylinders 1 and 6 when accelerating. Removed IM to do the coil swap. Everything went smoothly and I didn't see anything else wrong. Could use some help thinking this through.

Did the misfire go away?

New thermostats are shit those days, it might be set to that temp (210) , besides 5* of a change in normal as long as it goes down to what it was before

Yes, misfire is gone and running well.

I was expecting the temps to run below 200 degrees based on some commentary on other forums. Is that unreasonable? I kept the old thermostat as a backup for just in case situation.

Yes it is, try the old one and if it works better then get a replacement for the new one.... you should hit a good one eventually.

I put the old oem thermostat back in. With this hotter weather the temps were spiking up to 221 at idle. The old one doesn't get hotter than 204.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've replaced the MAF sensor, both ignition coils and the crank position sensor. Misfire is cured.

Time and time... use new parts only as last resort. Glad you got it sorted.
